About This Quote

Have faith in the Yankees my son. Think of the great DiMaggio was the last words Alfred P. DiMaggio Sr. heard from his son, Joe DiMaggio, before he walked out to right field and began his final at-bat.

The words were said in a conversation between Mantle and DiMaggio, who were alone in the dugout, at Yankee Stadium on July 16, 1951. Both had been forced to retire during the season due to injuries. Both men were 38 years old.

The conversation took place at the end of their final game together, the first game of the 1951 World Series between the Yanks and the Giants.
